1708-35 three documents relating to the payment of messengers. The first 1708 a request from John Barrett, Messenger in Ordinary at the exchequer receipt, for expenses incurred "in riding with, and delivering of diverse parcells of Acts of Parliament for granting an Aid to Her Majesty to be raised by a Land Tax in Great Britain for the service of the year 1708", listing the five journeys undertaken. With instructions to pay signed by John Smith as Chancellor of the Exchequer; 1709 request for payment from William Wekett, also a Messenger in Ordinary, for "for extraordinary charges &c sustained by himself and his deputy, in attending the Lord Treasurer and Mr. Secretary Lowndes", signed by Lowndes and Smith; and 1735 request made by Thomas Potter, messenger of the Court of Exchequer, for expenses incurred in delivering "several blank parchment books to customs controllers of several ports", signed by Sir Robert Walpole
