Fully Ordnance marked Brown Bess model 1794 flintlock musket used by the Gotland Militia with original bayonet. In 1808 England supplied a number of Brown Bess muskets to Sweden in response to Russian incursions into the island of Gotland in the Baltic sea. The island was divided into regions North, Middle and South. This gun was from the middle battalion as is marked on the barrel, stock and side-plate. The gun has high quality armoury fitted front and rear sights. The British proof and inspection marks are clearly visible on the lock and barrel, and the barrel is marked Ch which indicates fitting of the sights and other maintenance etc. , was carried out at the Kristianstad Tygstation (Christianstad, old spelling) . The breech is also marked with OG, VIS and PIF. The side of the breech is marked with the Gotland marks 2) M594 and the initials FE. The stock is marked in several places. The lock has received some restoration work. The Tower and Crown over GR engravings on the lock are original and clear with only slight evidence of wear. The Lock is also marked with I or J Gill (The maker or supplier to the Tower) . The bayonet is marked with a 4 and is also marked with the name John Gill and an Ordnance inspection mark.
