Description
Great Britain, 1847, 1sh Pale Green, Embossed (5; SG 54). Die 1, two vertical silk threads, Mint N.H., full to large margins including an 8mm margin at right and part of the adjoining stamp at left, fresh color, sharp embossing, horizontal crease at top EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A DESIRABLE EXAMPLE OF A STAMP THAT IS RARELY SEEN WITH ORIGINAL GUM - LET ALONE MINT NEVER HINGED. This issue was printed one stamp at a time, and spacing fluctuated considerably, with most having very small (or no) margins on one or more sides. This stamp possesses full margins at top and bottom, and unusually large margins at sides. The right side may be a sheet margin. It also bright color and pristine original gum that has not been hinged. So, despite the crease at top, this remains a highly collectable example for someone wanting to obtain an original-gum copy of the 1847 1-shilling embossed stamp. Catalogue values as hinged.
