1686 (25 March) document signed with integral address panel to "Sir William Stapleton Our Captain Generall and Governor in chief in and over Our Islands of St. Christophers, Nevis, & Monserrat, Antega, Barbuda, Anguilla, and all other the Carybe Islands lying to Leeward from Guardaloupe to the Island of St. John de Porto Rico", complete with full wafer seal. Document relieving Stapleton of his duties, explaining that "it is necessary for the recovery of your health you should go and remaine some time in France, We are graciously pleased hereby to give you leave to go thither, and to remaine there during such time as shall be requisite for that purpose" relieving him also "from the Government of Our Leeward Islands [allowing] you to receive the profits thereof ... And so We bid you Farewell". Signed at top "James R" and countersigned "Sunderland P" by Robert Spencer, 2nd Earl Sunderland as President of Council and Secretary of State. Address panel with staining and weakness along vertical fold with old repair.
