Great Britain
Sir Winston Churchill
A charming group of informal original photographs and postcards (9, one a copy and four of which postcards (agfa) by William Deakin, literary assistant Churchill. Two show Churchill painting a scene in Madeira, probably while staying at Belmond Reid’s Palace, two photographs show Churchill stepping off an aircraft with one of his daughters, one appears to show Churchill at the Chartwell Golden Orf pond seated on his wicker chair observing Deakin knee deep in the water at work with a spade - on this stone is now chiselled 'sir winston often sat beside this pond to mediate and to feed his golden orf'. Sold together with letter sent from Chartwell to Deakin mentioning the return of books that Churchill had been borrowing, two telegrams (1944) a word of thanks to Deakin, the other headed 'Top Secret' but a short personal note to Deakin from Churchill, and Mr. & Mrs. Deakin's invite to Churchill's funeral with an order of service. A fascinating lot full of personal history.
