Victoria gold "Shield" Sovereign 1841 MS65+ PCGS, KM736.1, S-3852, Marsh-24 (R3). A notably challenging date to locate in anything approaching Mint State, in fact the last straight-graded example we handled was an XF45 which was sold in 2020 for $9,300 all in. A look at the Bentley Collection's Lot 41, which realized £7,200 in 2012, confirms the present piece to be a vastly superior example. Within this framework, it is difficult for the present cataloger to curb the excitement when viewing this coin in hand.
