Greek Apulian Ceramic Kylix, Palmette Cross

Apulian kylix of the ‘Palmette Cross’-type, the shallow bowl with four stamped palmettes linked with arcs. The inside rim with a ridge to the floor as usual with cups dating to the 4th century BC. For a related cup, cf. item no. 103 in: John W. Hayes. Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum. Toronto 1984. Size: D. 15. 5 cm, W. over handles 21 cm Material: Ceramic Culture: Greek, Apulian, around 350 BC Condition: Excellent condition with brilliant black glaze. Part of one handle restored. Traces of another cup’s foot inside the floor. Provenance: German private collection, in family possession since 40 years. Thence art market Munich, February 2014 sale. Provenance data to the buyer.
