[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Greece, Archaic Period, ca. 6th to 5th century CE. A fine pottery bust of a women - perhaps a goddess - with flowing hair and ample breasts. The head is presented in relief with almond-shaped eyes, a slender nose above thin lips, and a rounded chin, all beneath a drooping veil. Protomes like this example were first created in Rhodes, however the style spread throughout Greece from the early 5th century BCE onwards. This piece would have been brightly painted with vibrant pigmentation and the details would have been much more well-defined. Custom lucite display stand included. Size: 3.1" W x 3.65" H (7.9 cm x 9.3 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private Dr. G.S. collection, Nuremberg, Germany; ex-Hans Piehler collection (1874 - 1961)

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#133042
