Greek Boar Gemstone in Gold Ring

5th-3rd century BC. A carved carnelian boar gemstone set into a possibly later gold finger ring with ellipsoid bezel and stepped cell. 16.67 grams, 32.33mm overall, 24.38mm internal diameter (approximate size British U 1/2, USA 10 1/4, Europe 23.15, Japan 22) (1 1/4"). Property of a central London gentleman; acquired from Artemission, London, SW5; formerly in a British private collection, acquired in the 1990s; accompanied by an Artemission certificate of authenticity.
