LOT 0020D

Greek Boeotian Pottery Horse, ex-Arnovick

[ translate ]

Greece, Tanagra, Boeotia, Geometric period, ca. 900 to 700 BCE. One of my favorites! A wonderful Boeotian terracotta horse rendered in a characteristically abstract yet distinctly equine form. The horse stands proudly upon all four legs which extend outward from the body, presenting a highly stylized mane and forelock that instantly calls to mind the Trojan Horse as well as a short, downcurved tail. Size: 5.75" L x 3.5" W x 6.125" H (14.6 cm x 8.9 cm x 15.6 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#157346
Condition Report: Body repaired from three pieces with breakline through the back and horse's nose reattached. Legs most likely repaired with restoration over the breaklines, though difficult to discern. Surface encrustation as shown. Nicks to feet. Otherwise very good with nice traces of red pigmented details.
