Greek Campanian Ceramic Bowl, Inscribed EI

Large Campanian bowl with a retrograde graffito reading EI, possibly the Greek abbreviation of EI[MI] – is mine – in the sense: this one belongs to me. The shallow floor decorated with rouletting, stamped palmettes and flowers (ivy corymbs) . With near vertical wall and slightly incurved rim. Standing on a raised ring base. Bottom reserved. The finger marks around the ring foot show that the bowl was dipped into the glaze. Size: D. 17. 4 cm, H. 6. 4 cm Material: Ceramic Culture: Greek Campanian, 3rd century BC Condition: Intact, apart from a mended chip and some abrasion of the lustrous glaze. Provenance: Old Swiss family property, acquired in 1920/30. Thence art market Zurich, June 2019 sale. Provenance data to the buyer. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
