Greek Campanian Ceramic Skyphos, APZ-Group

Large red-figure skyphos decorated with youths wearing heavy cloaks. They stand between coiling tendrils with half-palmettes. Upright palmettes below the handles. Type A skyphos of swelling body with slightly flared rim. The shape follows late 4th century Attic models. The vase is a product of the APZ group which was active as part of the Cumae A group (CA group) . For a related example, cf. Beazley archive no. 1008209. Size: H. 12. 4 cm, D. rim 12. 2 cm, W. over handles 18. 1 cm Material: Ceramic Culture: Greek, Campanian, APZ Group, 330-320 BC Condition: Excellent quality and condition. One handle reattached, small chip out of the rim, close to one head. Glaze on the bottom turned coral red. Provenance: German private collection B. K. , acquired January 11, 1971 from Galerie Dr. Erich Junkelmann, Schleissheim. Joined by the original inventory sheet dated March 1972. Thence art market Kiel, May 2018 sale.
