Greek Canosan Redware Trefoil Oinochoe

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Canosan Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown redware pottery oinochoe with an applied circular foot, a bulbous body which gently tapers to a wide neck, a trefoil spout, and an intricate bifurcated strap handle with a T-shaped upper terminal and a projecting thumb rest. Thick traces of original white pigment are visible across the exterior with some frontal areas displaying faint red, pink, and citrine hues. Size: 4.6" W x 6.9" H (11.7 cm x 17.5 cm).

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

Condition Report: Minor nicks to base, body, rim, and handle, light encrustations, and losses to much original pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and traces of pigmentation throughout.
