Greek Corinthian Pottery Alabastron w/ Net Motif

Greece, Corinth, Archaic Period, ca. 6th to 5th century BCE. A graceful ceramic alabastron, with an elongated body, narrow neck to prevent the evaporation of liquids within, and a thick mouth. The body is decorated with a black-painted netted pattern. Greek women used this type of vessel to hold scented oils or perfumes. Similar examples with more rounded, squat, globular bodies are referred to as aryballoi, and were used by men for the same purpose. Size: 2.55" W x 6.2" H (6.5 cm x 15.7 cm)
