Greek Cypriot Figure of Kore
c.6th century BC. A sandstone figure of Kore modelled as a youthful maiden, standing with one arm resting by her side, hair to shoulders, detailing to the collar of her robes and her belt still visible. 830 grams, 24.5cm high (9 3/4"). Acquired in the 1970s. Property of a London gentleman. Kore ('the maiden') is a name of Persephone, the queen of the underworld and daughter of Zeus and Demeter.
