Greek Cypriot Redware Milk Bowl

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Middle Bronze Age I-II, ca. 2000 to 1750 BCE. A beautiful Cypriot red polished ware bowl, most likely from the south of Cyprus, a type that dated earlier than the white-slip ware "milk bowls" of the late Bronze Age. The hemispheric, redware bowl features a rounded base with thin walls and rim surrounding the deep basin, and a parabolic handle joined to the backside. A lovely example, probably used as a personal bowl for drinking and eating. Please note, the Lucite stand in photos is not included. Size: 6.125" W x 5.5" H (15.6 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000

Condition Report: A couple of pressure fissures - 1.5" fissure down from the rim of side wall and below handle. Chip to rim by handle. Expected surface wear commensurate with age. Minute nicks to nubbin points on handle. Dimple on underside. Old collection numbers handwritten on interior walls. Amazing white deposits and root marks grace the surface.
