Greek Daunian Pottery Kantharos w/ TL

Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Daunian, ca. 6th to 4th century BCE. An attractive wheel-thrown kantharos with an apple-form body and a flared rim, all standing on a petite pedestal foot. A pair of handles arch up from the shoulder and attach into the mouth of the vessel. Daunian society was a mixture of native Italians and Greeks who had settled in the area and their pottery was subsequently influenced by both cultures. Size: 5.5" in diameter x 4.6" H (14 cm x 11.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

Condition Report: TL holes to base and under handle. Modern black pigment removed from most surfaces. Chips to rim and restoration to one handle. Nick to base with some light abrasions in areas. Otherwise, very nice.
