Greek Gold Figural Earring Pair
4th-2nd century BC. A matched pair of gold earrings, each comprising a hoop with loop closure, applied nude figure with shoulder-length hair and applied band from shoulder to hip, rosette above; pendant sheet gold disc with ripped loop, applied filigree braid enclosing a filigree rosette and inset central cabochon garnet (one only); one with sheet-gold conical Hercules club with granule clusters. 8.57 grams total, 40mm each (1 1/2"). Property of an Essex collector; acquired on the UK art market; formerly in an early 1990s private collection.[2]
