Greek Hellenistic Megarian Redware Bowl

**First Time At Auction**

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 3rd to 1st century CE. A mold-formed redware pottery bowl of a petite form bearing a round but stable base, gently swelling walls, and a thin, slightly flared rim. The base of the mastoid vessel displays a broad flower with a central boss surrounded by 8 ovoid petals, and the walls feature a repeating program of minimalist anthropomorphic figures beneath a register of inverted triangles. Size: 3.375" W x 2.25" H (8.6 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: private C.Q. collection, Lexington, Virginia, USA, acquired December 7, 2013; ex-Artemis Gallery; ex-Sarkisian Estate, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired before 1960

Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to rim and exterior decorations, with light softening to some raised motifs, and fading to pigment in scattered areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to raised motifs across exterior. Old inventory label written in black atop a clear substance inside of rim.
