Greek Hellenistic Pottery Seated Female Votive Figure

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A hollow-molded pottery female figure shown nude while seated upon ample thighs. The woman presents with carefully delineated wrinkles on her abdomen and waistline, both arms held out to her sides, and with perky breasts in front of gently sloped shoulders. Her feminine visage peers forward with ovoid eyes beneath slender brows and bears a slightly flush nose, attractive lips, and a plaited coiffure bound in the back with a bun. Size: 2.4" W x 3.875" H (6.1 cm x 9.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Walter Earl collection, Anchorage, Alaska, USA, formerly property of state senator and ex-speaker of the house for Alaska, before 2000

Condition Report: Repairs to head at neckline, top of both thighs, and beneath proper right thigh, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Losses to left forearm, most of right forearm, and both legs from the upper thigh and knee down as shown. Abrasions to body and head, with softening to some finer details. Nice feminine form remaining.
