Greek Kantharos with Vine Decoration
South Italian, 5th-4th century BC. A black-glaze kantharos with bell-shaped body, sharply carinated to the bottom and flared to the rim; tall stemmed foot with central moulding and splayed base; high strap handles extending above the rim; body decorated with ivy leaves and tendrils above a band of scrolls. 490 grams, 24cm tall (9 1/2"). Property of a North London gentleman; formerly in an old Cambridge collection.
