Greek Tarentum Pottery Breast-Form Baby Rattle

Magna Graecia, Tarentum, ca. late 4th century CE. A very unusual pottery rattle depicting a double-sided breast, of a round form with applied nipples on both faces and similar round appliques along the perimiter. Rattles within make a lovely sound, presubably soothing to a baby of the ancient world. Size: 1.625"L x 2.25" in diameter (4.1 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection, before 2000
