Greek Terracotta Head, Young Woman

Hellenistic head of a young woman with an oval face, eyes with heavy lids, a fine nose and soft lips. The hair is combed into groups of strands and surrounded by a floral wreath with a flower in the middle and a preserved ivy leaf on the side. The head is slightly turned to woman’s left. Much use of the modeling tool. Remains of white pigment for the female skin, red pigment on the cap that gathers the hairdo behind. Size: H. 3. 8 cm, H. with stand 5. 5 cm Material: Terracotta Culture: Western Greek, Hellenistic Period, 3rd/2nd century BC Condition: Charming style. Broken at the neck level. Remains of the original polychromy. Provenance: Swiss private collection, acquired in the Swiss art market 1994-2002. Thence art market Zurich, December 2019 sale. Provenance data to the buyer.
