Greek relief, late Hellenistic or Roman, 1st c. BC

[ translate ]

Greek relief, late Hellenistic or Roman, 1st c. BC - 2nd c. AD.
Stone.
Measurements: 71 x 31 x 8 cm.
This relief is dated to the Late Hellenistic Greek or Roman period. This can be seen, for example, in the drapery, whose drapery is slightly schematic, somewhat rigid, although naturalism begins to appear in them, as well as in the anatomy, which already follows more advanced canons. He is an exponent of the Attic school in which he follows the Ionic tradition in the folding of the drapery: with finesse and symmetry. In archaic Greek sculpture, hieratic and rigid features are still maintained, with geometric and closed compositions respecting the law of frontality. But in the figure in question, the tilted head and the anatomy already herald more advanced forms typical of the late Hellenistic or Roman period.
