Grossular Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada "Three hessonite garnets scattered on a green diopside matrix up to about 2 cm. This may be the best miniature know of hessonite from Asbestos. Certainly it is one of the very best. I made many trips to the mine and it was the best I was ever able to get. Bought from Roger Poisson, a miner at Asbestos in the in the open pit mine. The scale under the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm." - Rock H. Currier Many a fine specimen came from the Jeffrey Mine before asbestos hysteria terrorized the public a number of years ago. Some of the more notable things from Jeffrey were superb Grossular Garnets that emerged as a byproduct of the mining operations there. Miners supplemented their earnings by picking up the occasionally encountered specimen while going about their mundane tasks. These specimens then made their way into the avaricious hands of the various dealers and collectors that visited the area in search of the elusive: "sleeper". This hot little number was acquired in just that way. Overall Measurements: 2.0 x 1.2 x 0.8 inches (5.0 x 3.0 x 2.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from miner Roger Poisson [RHC #2763, acquired 1972] MinID E0P-AEY [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
