15 fascinating photographs of children at various activities in the DP orphanage/school in Schlachtensee, Berlin. Highlights: Chanukah party at the Schlachtensee school, Chanukah candle lighting, children's Chanukah play, Purim party, lesson at school, lesson for seamstresses, photograph of a counselor at the camp sent to her family in Haifa (apparently the photographer of the other photographs in the collection).
The Schlachtensee DP camp served primarily as a transit camp for Jewish refugees after the Holocaust. However, there were also institutions for children there, in which counselors from the Land of Israel volunteered, and even soldiers from the Jewish Brigade. It was beside Lake Schlachtensee, less than a kilometer from Vonaza.
