Group of 6 Chinese Snuff Bottles, Late 19th-Early 20th

A group of six Chinese snuff bottles dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The group includes: A seedpod snuff bottle with metal and glass decoration; it has a metal stopper with a metal spoon, and it is attached to the bottle with chains. An enameled metal snuff bottle featuring two roundels of fish; it has beast head handles with engaged rings, and it has a stopper with a spoon. A dark glass snuff bottle in a roughly triangular shape; it has a jadeite stopper with a spoon. An inside-painted glass snuff bottle featuring two figures in a landscape scene with two inscriptions and three seals; it has a glass stopper with a spoon. A white snuff bottle with metal and porcelain decoration and a wooden stand; its body is carved on both sides with a scholar in a landscape scene, and there are beast heads on a shoulder, and it has a stopper. And lastly, a white snuff bottle with metal and glass decoration; it has a metal stopper with a metal spoon that has been attached with chains.

Dimensions are: the largest snuff bottle with the carvings of the scholar measures 4 1/4 inches tall X 2 inches wide, 10.8 cm X 5.1 cm. All measurements are approximate.

Condition: The seedpod snuff bottle has several areas of repair. The enameled snuff bottle is in overall good condition. The dark glass snuff bottle has a chip to the rim and to the foot, and its stopper has a repair. The inside-painted glass snuff bottle has two star cracks and a chip to the rim. The carved white snuff bottle has several areas of repair, and the stopper has been glued on. And the white snuff bottle with the metal and glass decoration has abrasions throughout.

Provenance: From the estate of Mr. Pitts in Southern Virginia. The piece was collected over 30 years ago.
