Group of Régence Green Silk-Upholstered Beechwood Seating Furniture
First quarter 18th century
Comprising a settee, four armchairs and a side chair; each armchair with padded serpentine back, arms and seat with acanthus-carved handholds, the apron centered by a shell on trelliswork and flanked by foliate scrolls, raised on similarly carved cabriole legs on inscrolled feet and joined by shaped stretchers. Height of settee 40 inches (101.6 cm), length 78 inches (198.2 cm), depth of seat 22 1/2 inches (57.2 cm); height of armchair 42 1/2 inches (108 cm), width 29 inches (73.3 cm), depth of seat 23 inches (58.3 cm); height of side chair 34 inches (86.4 cm), width 20 inches (73.3 cm), depth of seat 17 inches (43.2 cm).
