Jean Dunand
Group of Three Cigarette Cases and One Tobacco Box
circa 1922
comprising three cigarette cases and one tobacco box by Jean Dunand after designs by Jean Lambert-Rucki
lacquered fruitwood, walnut, silvered metal
the tobacco box signed J. Dunand; one case signed Jean Dunand
tobacco box: 2 ⅛ x 5 ⅞ x 3 ½ in. (5.4 x 14.9 x 8.9 cm)
cigarette cases: ½ x 3 ½ x 3 ¼ in. (1.3 x 8.9 x 8.2 cm) each
Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. The wood surfaces present with faint scattered scratches, light scuffing and wear to the edges and corners consistent with age and gentle use. The lacquered fruitwood marquetry is in well preserved condition with occasional minute losses to the lacquer, not visually distracting. The metal displays some slight lifting from the wood surface, stable. The lid of the tobacco box does not close flush to the base and the hinges present some resistance to opening. The interior of one cigarette case with a detached wood support, not impacting functionality and which may be reattached at the buyer’s discretion. The interior of one case is applied with a sticker marked CABINET/D'EXPERTISES/FELIX MARCILHAC. The signatures each possibly later applied with lacquer by a previous owner.
