Group of Three Watercolor Portrait Miniatures, 19th c., consisting of a man, in an oval easel frame; a woman in a brown dress, in a black wood frame; and a woman wearing pearls, signed "Winterhalter" center left, presented in a segmented bone frame with a tortoise shell border, Oval- Frame- H.- 5 3/4 in., W.- 3 3/4 in., D.- 3 in.; Bone- Frame- H.- 5 3/4 in.,W.- 5. in., D.- 7/16 in.; Black- Frame- H.- 5 7/8 in., W.- 4 3/4 in., D.- 5/16 in. (3 Pcs.)
Condition Report: Miniature with the tortoiseshell is a portrait of Napoleon III's wife Empress Eugenie. Inside the frame, the old paper backing is inscribed in German: "Kaiserin Eugenie." The top of the miniature (unframed) has some small losses to pigment along the top edge from rubbing with the frame. Top of the frame has a few losses to tortoiseshell edges. In otherwise very good condition. The other female portrait is in very good condition with no visible losses or repairs. The portrait of the man exhibits buckling to paper, fading and light toning. No visible losses or repairs were noted. Neither of the last two portraits were examined outside of their frames.
