Original hand coloured.68x47 cm. ample margins.The image shows Eros in a basin fountain sorrounded by women and at the left two women shaking hand.The image comes from an Apulian pelike vase nowadays at the Museo Civico of Catania. This was part of the collection assembled by Hamilton during his time in Naples as British ambassador. Hamilton and Hancarville published the entire collection before selling to the British museum in 1772.The work in 4 volumes was a magnificent example of graphic art of the Neo-classical period.
