A Great War 1918 ‘Western Front Spring Offensive’ M.M. awarded to Private J. R. Orde, 1 Squadron, Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry), late 2nd Dragoon Guards and afterwards Reserve Regiment of CavalryMilitary Medal, G.V.R. (41051 Pte. J. R. Ord. 1/Sq: M.G.C.) very fine and scarce £400-£500---M.M. London Gazette 16 July 1918. Probably an award for the battles of of St Quentin, Bapaume, or Rosieres, March 1918.John Robert Ord was born at Wingate, County Durham, in 1891, and enlisted as 20248 Private, 2nd Dragoon Guards, on 1 September 1914. He served in France from 17 October 1915, and transferred to 1st Squadron, Machine Gun Corps, on its formation in 1 Cavalry Division on 28 February 1916. He later transferred as 20139 Private, to 13 Reserve Regiment of Cavalry, and as 20248 Private, to 2 Reserve Regiment of Cavalry.
