Thomas Henry Jewell was born in Rotherhithe, London. He served during the Great War with the 22nd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery in the French theatre of war from 6 October 1915. Jewell transferred as a Sapper to the Royal Engineers in April 1917, and served with several Field Survey Battalions. He advanced to Acting Corporal and served with the 24th Field Survey Battalion from April 1918.
After the war Jewell returned to the R.G.A. and had several Coastal Battery postings, including to Portsmouth. He advanced to Sergeant, and served at the Experimental Establishment at Shoeburyness. Jewell was discharged, 26 August 1935, having served 21 years and 21 days.
I.S.M. London Gazette 18 February 1980 (Process and General Supervisory Grade C, Ministry of Defence).
Sold with named Central Chancery forwarding letter for the Imperial Service Medal, dated 19 February 1980, and copied research the majority of which is laminated.
