Gruppa AM is a partnership of two artists: Alexey Loptev and Maria Lopteva (both born 1987) who live and work in Moscow. They studied monumental sculpture at the Moscow State University of Applied Arts. Gruppa AM works mainly with bronze, favouring this material above others for its ancient tradition in sculpture, inner vibrancy and durability. In a world where there is so little consistency, bronze shows itself as an easy to trust material, something that will care for the materialised artists thought for a long time to come. In their works , Gruppa AM question the truthfulness of the visible world, relying on intuition and imagination. Is life really what it seems? Or has someone caught us in one big illusion? They find inspiration in the sincerity of the art of children and primitive cultures, adoring the way that feeling finds new forms of expression, not copying, but adding to the world around us.
