Guerrero Mezcala Jade Axe God Amulet

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A very fine Mezcala axe god figure, hand-carved from mottled omphacite jade. The minimalist, string-cut features include a slit-form mouth, dotted eyes, a broad triangular outline for a nose, a short torso, and slightly parted legs. Its surface is a lustrous jade green with creamy-white inclusion. A suspension hole is located along the stones back mid-section. A beautifully carved idol in amazing form. Size: 1.25" W x 2.1" H (3.2 cm x 5.3 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
