Guerrero Xochipala Pottery Seated Female Figure
Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Xochipala culture, Mesoamerican Formative Period, ca. 13th to 10th century BCE. An early example of a hand-built pottery female figure shown seated with crossed legs and arms placed atop her knees. Her slender, corseted waistline tapers towards the midsection before expanding to form her chest and breasts, and both rounded shoulder taper inwards to create the profile of the neck. Her stylized countenance exhibits protruding, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, flared nostrils, a smiling mouth with delineated teeth, and spool-adorned earrings, all beneath a centrally parted coiffure. Remains of white pigment still cover most of the figure's surfaces. Size: 2.9" W x 4.4" H (7.4 cm x 11.2 cm)
Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
