Gunthermann German Clockwork Musical Menagerie Carousel, 1886-1920, of tinplate construction, cylindrical form, having red stepped base with "A.S.G.W." oval plaque (Adolf & Siegfried Günthermann Weigel) topped by gold painted finely pierced balustrade, above is a circular revolving platform centred upon a architectural pavilion or drum decorated with a lighthouse boating scene, arranged around the platform is a particularly attractive menagerie of lithographed tinplate fairground mounts and passengers, female riders on two pigs and gentleman on three horses, to the inner having three gentleman on benches, also enjoying the ride, all held in place by gold painted spiral rods, the canopy with alternating red, white and blue segments, surmounted by a shaped tinplate pennant flag and edged by ornate gold trim, the base with integral key operating a spring-driven clockwork mechanism concealed within the base that rotates the carousel whilst an accompanying simple mechanical 'plink-plonk' or plinker musical mechanism plays, approximately 210mm diameter × 240 mm high.
