Herbert Hoover
n.p., ca. 1929
H. Hoover & R. MacDonald Discuss Naval Disarmament at Rapidan. A Gorgeous Signed Photograph
Large signed portrait, 10.5" x 13", ca. 1929, showcasing President Herbert Hoover and British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald during their retreat to Rapidan as they discussed Naval disarmament. Boldly signed by President Hoover as "Herbert Hoover" and Prime Minister MacDonald as "Ramsey MacDonald" in black fountain pen below the image. In fine condition, with some foxing, toning, dealers marks in pencil and evidence of prior mounting on verso.

In October 1929, British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald and his daughter spent a week at Rapidan Camp. During their stay, Hoover and MacDonald held private discussions in preparation for a conference on limiting naval armaments to take place in London the following year. A persistent, if probably apocryphal story tells that they dismantled the navies of the world while perched at opposite ends of a fallen tree trunk.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
