PROVENANCE: The Caroline and Ralph Brown Collection. Purchased from Hans Coper at Digswell, 1961. The sculptor Ralph Brown was one of the first three artist invited to become artists in residence at Digswell in 1958, alongside Hans Coper and Peter Collingwood. Ralph and his wife Caroline were at Digsell between 1958 and 1963 and became great friends with Hans and spent much time in each other's studios in that time.
