HANS MÃœLER (Vienna, 1873 - 1937).
"Sanctus Hubertus".
Bronze.
Signed.
Exhibitions: "European sculpture of the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014.
Measurements: 66 cm.
Juan Carlos Bejarano states in the catalogue of the exhibition "European sculpture of the 20th century", held at the MEAM in 2014, that "The work "Sanctus Hubertus" has had different interpretations, and it is said that its iconography should be sought in the Book of Hunting by Gaston Febus, however, the equestrian theme is present in other pieces by the sculptor, such as Cangrande I della Scalla, cavaller de Verona".
The son of fellow sculptor Franz Xavier Müller, Hans Müller trained at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with August Kühne and later with Edmund von Hellmer, in whose studio he also worked after completing his studies. Müller received several prizes from the academy. From 1900 to 1905 he worked in the studio of Friedrich Christoph Hausmann. From 1906 Müller returned to work in Vienna, where he became a member of the artists' association in 1909. After the war, he created sculptural works for residential buildings in Vienna. He also created monuments and funerary sculptures in the inter-war period. He was buried in Ottakringer Friedhof. He specialised in monumental sculpture applied to buildings and funerary sculpture, according to an academicist Realism sometimes influenced by the aesthetics of the Viennese Secession.
