Footnote: Note: Hitchcock was born in London to a family of artists, and was descended from the animal artist George Stubbs on his mother’s side. At the age of 16 he was hailed in the press as a child prodigy as a result of the enthusiasm of Dame Laura Knight for his work. His work has been described as typifying a particular 'English-ness', reminiscent of the work of artists including William Blake and the pastoral idylls of Samuel Palmer.
