Catch-22. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1961. 8vo. Publisher's blue-gray cloth titled in white on spine, pictorial dust jacket. Cloth slightly sunned, minor spotting, jacket lightly rubbed with a few chips to corners.FIRST EDITION with first state jacket, without reviews on the back panel. Loosely inserted is a Wester Union telegram from Joseph Heller addressed to David Lloyd, care of Paramount Studios, dated February 10, 1983, being a reference for a young aspiring writer named Steven Kunes. "He will be in Los Angeles next week and is planning to call you ... I can vouch strongly for his talent, imagination and character." Although Steven Kunes had some success as a writer in Hollywood, he had already been sued by J.D. Salinger for trying to sell an interview with the writer to People magazine in 1982, and was accused of plagiarizing work on other occasions later in his career. He was later convicted of theft after pleading guilty to forging checks.
