Spine ends and corners slightly bumped, toning to page edges, jacket price-clipped, toned, spine panel darkened, chipping to edges, especially to head of spine.FIRST EDITION OF HEMINGWAY'S FIRST PUBLISHED NOVEL, A SATIRE OF THE CHICAGO SCHOOL, in first state dust jacket with 9 titles listed in advertisement on back panel. Hemingway first submitted the book to Boni and Liveright, who declined to publish the book in deference to their author and Hemingway's friend Sherwood Anderson, whose Dark Laughter Hemingway was parodying. With Fitzgerald's encouragement, Hemingway sold the novel to Maxwell Perkins at Scribner, along with his future work. While Torrents pf Spring found a lukewarm reception, six months later Scribner would publish The Sun Also Rises beginning a revolution in literature. Hanneman A4(a).
