The original painting by Hendrick de Clerck was sold at Christie's, London, 18.04.1997, lot 53. The original bears a monogram in the lower right corner and is painted on panel. The canvas of the present piece has practically the same measurement as the original panel, and shows a strong resemblance in quality to the prototype of De Clerck.
