HENKEL / SPIGLE ATTRIBUTED, BOTETOURT CO., VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE JAR, lead- and manganese-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with angled shoulder, short neck, and everted rim, having alternating three incised sine waves and five bands of two to five incised rings, additional sine waves to shoulder and three incised rings to base. Jesse Henkel or Philip Spigle, Amsterdam, Botetourt Co., VA. 1830-1850. 9 3/4" H, 5" D rim.
Three shallow chips to inner rim, minor to moderate glaze wear.
