HENKEL / SPIGLE ATTRIBUTED, BOTETOURT CO., VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE JAR, lead- and manganese-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with angled shoulder, short neck, and everted rim, having alternating three incised sine waves and five bands of two to five incised rings, additional sine waves to neck and five incised rings to base. Probably Jesse Henkel or Philip Spigle, Amsterdam, Botetourt Co., VA. 1830-1850. 9 3/8" H, 4 7/8" D rim.
Short rim hairline, flake to base, minor to moderate glaze wear.
