HENRI-PIERRE DANLOUX | PORTRAIT OF LUM A'KAO

[ translate ]

HENRI-PIERRE DANLOUX
Paris 1753 - 1809
PORTRAIT OF LUM A'KAO

inscribed upper left in Chinese script: 香山林亞九
oil on canvas
35¼ by 28 in.; 92 by 71 cm.

繁體中文

Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This work has been beautifully restored. The canvas is lined. There is a good texture to the paint layer, and the varnish nicely illuminates the rich palette. The lining addresses a complex break in the canvas in the center of the background to the right of the figure. This is an "H" shaped damage which runs about 10 inches in total. There are other restorations in the left side of the sky beneath the inscription and in a few areas around the edges of the sky. There are only a few isolated spots in the face, none of which are of any particular significance. The black coat had developed thinness over time, which has been addressed with extensive retouching. The restorations have been accurately applied and are only very slightly discolored in a couple of small spots. The work certainly looks well as a result and should be hung in its current condition.

"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller"
