HENRY CLAY "THE AMERICAN STATESMAN" 1844 CAMPAIGN CIGAR CASE HAKE #3019.
2.75x5.5x3/8" deep expanding to depth of 1" so four cigars can be stored in slide-out interior compartment. Text below portrait reads: "The American Statesman/Come Every Whig, Your Influence Bring/On This Eventful Day, And Make The Western Vallies Ring/With Shouts Of Henry Clay." Front has about .25" dia. areas left and right of candidate's face w/a few tiny marks where specks of the shellacked surface material are gone. Reverse has two small dots gone, only 1/16" and 1/8". The slide-out compartment has a hairline split on one side of the area where the fabric meets the cardboard but this shows only when the case is expanded. Otherwise, just normal crazing of the shellacked outer surfaces. Overall VF. Always popular amongst collectors and among the earliest full color campaign artifacts.
