HERMAN GORING STERLING SILVER COFFEE POT
A very ornate, elaborately-engraved coffee pot once owned by HERMANN GORING (1893-1946), a World War I ace who rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committing suicide on the eve of his execution. This beautiful antique sterling silver piece, hallmarked by silversmiths 'C. KEUHL' in Leipzig and numbered '8910', stands 10.5 in. tall and 9.5 in. wide overall, with three ornate bands of laurel leaves about the top, center, and bottom, and the spout and handle similarly decorated. The front of the piece bears a period expertly-engraved rendering of Goring's coat of arms, an armored arm grasping a ring rising from a knight's helmet, a shield with the same arm beneath, wings at the top, and wreaths of oak leaves all about. With copies of letters of provenance pointing to origin from a G.I. at Berchtesgaden. The pinecone-type device atop the hinged lid is slightly bent, but easily repaired if so desired. Very good.
