HERMANN GOERING''S COPY OF OTTO VON BISMARCK''S MEMOIR
An incredibly rare find, the first volume of Otto von Bismarck's two-volume memoir: "Anhang zu den Gedanken und Erinnerungen von Otto Frst von Bismarck" (Stuttgart and Berlin: J.G. Cotta'sche Buchhandlung Nachfolger), 1901. 360pp. 8vo., bearing the ex-libris bookplate of Reichsmarshall HERMANN GOERING on the front pastedown. This bookplate features Goering's blind-embossed name beneath an engraving of a knight, with his personal seal in the upper-right corner. Some pages broken at the gutter, else very good. OTTO VON BISMARCK (1815-1898) was a conservative German statesman who masterminded the unification of Germany in 1871 and served as its first chancellor until 1890, in which capacity he dominated European affairs for two decades. He had previously been Minister President of Prussia (1862-1890) and Chancellor of the North German Confederation (1867-1871).
